Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

I cosigned for an apartment for my son and his friend. My son moved out before his roommate did. My son's roommate broke the lease and left early and acquired other fees as well. My son's roommate said that he would take care of everything. My son has texts stating this. He did not take care of anything and now I have a summons to appear in court. The roommate said that he is not going to court. Should my son and I go to court and try to get his roommate to pay or am I just stuck with the bill since I am the cosigner?
