Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

My mom was arrested yesturday for something that happened twelve and a half years ago. The police told her that she was supposed to go to trial a long time ago and didn't shw up but her attny did. She never had an attny. They got her on 3 failure to appears 2 class D felonies and 1 mistomeder. What can we do about this?

Hire an attorney now, or request appointment of a public defender in the county where the charges are so he/she can try to straighten this out.
