Legal Question in Elder Law in Indiana

I have poa for a 82 yr man who is not blood related, he has dementia, can he still change his poa? The reason i ask is I am also his full time care giver, and everytime he gets mad he threatens to.

His blood family has not contacted him over the last 5 months. (not one call, not one visitor) (not even on thanksgiving,Christmas, new years, or his birthday)

He is starting to get verbally abusive, And the nurses who see him suggest I put him in a home. But I am afraid that if I do his family will show up and convince him to change the poa with the condition that they will get him out.

In order to chang a POA he must be competent. However, if they want to, they can get around the POA by obtaining a guardianship.
