Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

1. I am 16 years old. I want to get emancipated but my parents make it impossible to support myself, they threated to report me as a runaway, and take me out of school, without my consent, if I leave. How do I go about this?

2. Are my parent allowed to keep me from getting a job, because they will not give my social security number to me. How can I go about this?

1. If you in school, you do not have to "support yourself" under the law. Courts are very wary of granting emancipation as teens frequently object not to abuse, but to restrictions they feel unfair.

2. Check your school and medical records for this information. Ask an adult counselor at school to intervene on your behalf to discuss getting a part-time job for yourself.
