Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Back Child Support and Paying for College

Sir or Madam-

I am 21 years old. My father stopped paying child support when I was 18. My mother signed a paper saying that she knew he would not be paying any more but not that she agreed to it. Also is there not an indiana law about a parent that pays child support helping to pay for the childs college as well? When the custody case was being fought 20 years ago my father did make a verbal agreement to pay all of my tuition as long as the didn't have to pay as much child support as my mother was requesting, I realize that a verbal agreement is not binding in the state of Indiana. My question is are there legal options I can pursue in order to get his help paying for college. As far as the back child support he has not paid in 3 years, My mother and i would like to recover that as a means of helping to pay for school as well. I know he has the money because he was boasting that he used the money he saved not paying child support to help pay for his new motorcycle! So are there legal options I can pursue?

Re: Back Child Support and Paying for College

If there was no order stopping child support, you should be able to get arrears. If your 21st birthday has passed, you will not be able to initiate an action for college expense contribution.
