Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My stepson has been living with my husband and I in Indians sine June 2015. He is currently visiting his mom in Texas. We agreed he would come back after summer as our home is more stable. Now that he is there she is talking like she doesn't want to send him back. If we wanted to fight for custody as she is currently the primary custodian, what state would we file, Texas or Indiana ? I read that it is based on where the child lived for the last 6 months. If it had to be Texas, would we have to get a lawyer from Texas? Would we be required to travel to Texas for court? The child is 14.

Where was the divorce? If in either Indiana or Texas you would file in that state. If neither, probably in Indiana.
