Legal Question in Personal Injury in Indiana

Is there a law stating that if a service shop deems a vehicle unsafe for road conditions, then they can hold onto the car until the problem is fixed or until it is towed off their property? For instance a car goes to the shop for a oil change and the mechanic says that the tires are unsafe for road use, can he hold onto the car until he fixes it or until the owner tows it off of his property?

i have been practicing law in indiana and illinois since 1975 and i have never heard of such a law. further it doesn't make sense that such a law would exist. sounds like someone is trying to sell you new tires. good luck.
