Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Verbal Agreement Where Owner Also Resides in Residence

I verbally agreed about 1 year ago to live with a college friend for around a year once he had a house built. I have lived their for 5 months now and things are not working out. Do I have a legal liability if I notify him that I am moving out at this time?

Re: Verbal Agreement Where Owner Also Resides in Residence

Absent a written memorandum that would indicate such an agreement, you are a month to month renter. You need only to give him 30 days notice of your intent to move. If you stay one day longer than the 30 days, then you will owe for the whole month. If he files suit, I strongly suggest you hire an attorney to represent you.
