Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

What happens when an elderly person passes away and they are survived by a spouse of retirement age also.....when there is credit card debt but there is no "estate" to be divided up. There are no cars or any assests other than the house? Does it make any difference if the credit debt is in the deceased person's name only? The surviving spouse has NOTHING in her name at all..................

Thank you,

Season McMillan
