Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

In Iowa is it legal or not to record a private business conversation without knowledge or permission of the unaware party ? If not, what class of violation is it. The out of context recording is being used for a perceived advantage in a negotiation. Thank you.

This is a touchy area, but one many people misunderstand. It appears from what you've stated that you are going to be a part of the conversation. That you are not going to advise to the other party the conversation is being recorded and you will record by electronic means. So long as one party to a conversation gives permission to record it is legal. But really this type of free Q&A is not a good format for you to be getting an answer. What Ive stated here today should not be considered legal advice to you nor should you rely on it. You should sit down with an attorney who can explore all the facts and express a well reasoned opinion, which none of this can be because we don't have all the facts. So go hire an attorney to research the matter in a way that is proper.
