Legal Question in Construction Law in Iowa

Copying Architectual Plans

My father is an architect and drew up some plans for us to build a new home. We gave the plans to a contractor to spec out the plans. We have since found out that he has shown the plans to someone else who wants to build a home with him. What kind of legal recourse do we have if he builds this home? Or my father?

Re: Copying Architectual Plans

Your father should register his copyright in the plans with the U.S. Copyright Office and then assert a claim for copyright infringement. You would want to be sure to put the putative infringers on notice of the existence of the copyright.
