Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Would Iowa extradite over aggravated misdemeanor?

I failed to appear in court in Iowa 3 years ago for a dispositional hearing regarding ''Domestic abuse assault with dangerous weapon'', an aggravated misdemeanor. Originally the prosecutor asked for 5 days in jail, $500 fine, 1 year probation and anger management classes. (maximum penalty is 2 years in jail, this is my first offense)

I now live in Mississippi. Will Iowa extradite over an aggravated misdemeanor? If not, will it appear on NCIC?

(I had my ID ran through the computer in Detroit, MI at US Customs after being deported from Canada and the customs agent let me go.)

I plan to take care of this, but am not sure where to start. Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Would Iowa extradite over aggravated misdemeanor?

There's no way of knowing the answer to this question without asking the competent authority what their policy is. Even if they did not plan on it you could still be arrested by local police and held until the matter is cleared up.

Perhaps there is a notation on the NCIC report about resolution of the warrant but that can be reviewed only by law enforcement or county attorney people.

What you need to do to resolve this is to face the music, so to speak. You may not find the prosecutor or the court so generous because you've shown a tendency to run. On the other hand if your warrant is a non extradition one you may avoid extradition but you may get arrested and held until the situation is cleared up-which could be quite inconvenient for you.
