If I am was told by the attorney that I was not convicted of a crime, but it still shows up on a background check, how can I get this removed?

If you're referring to a deferred judgment, you haven't been convicted but that does not mean the records' going to go away and a background check through the DCI is going to turn it up.

Except under very limited conditions-minor in possession of alcohol charges I believe- Iowa does not allow expungement of criminal records. In addition, if you were arrested a record of that arrest remains in the federal NCIC database.
