Legal Question in Education Law in Iowa

Hello,

I am graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa working on an MA in Spanish. We take all courses in Spain during the summer. Our program requires 32 credits for a MA and we can complete it in three summers. Recently my entire program received an e-mail saying that they are canceling our graduate program. The University is not telling us why the program is being canceled. They say they will send out alternatives for completing the degree. There are also rumors that the program found out they were not accredited. I cannot say if this is true or not but considering their unwillingness to explain why they are canceling the program it makes me wonder. What legal responsibility does UNI have to offer us to a way to complete our MA? Do they need to offer an authentic abroad setting as promised or could they make us come to campus? Or do they have any responsibility at all to offer us a way to complete our MA? If they are not accredited should they legally have to reimburse us for tuition?

The reason the UNISSIST overseas program is getting cancelled is probably about money or enrollment.

As you know, rumors are rumors. I don't give much weight to them and you shouldn't either.

If they've said they'll give you a way to complete your degree I think that's all they're obligated to do. They're entitled to change the rules of their programs as they see fit.

I would contact Mr. Liccari in the provost's office to get up to date information.
