Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

My boyfriend Shawns son's "mother" only has visitations every other weekend. We recently went to court for her to get full custody and the judge ruled against it. After the hearing Shawn's court appointed lawyer told him not to let her see the baby if he felt it was unsafe. We haven't let her see the baby for a month or so and she's filing contempt of court against him tomorrow. We have evidence of her saying she's going to do acid and that she thinking about moving to Wisconsin on Facebook. What should we do?

Well, for whatever reasons you breached the court's previous custody order. I think your court appointed lawyer gave you bad advice (if that is indeed what they said) but you'll have to demonstrate to the court the existence of an unsafe condition such that it would be permissible to disobey the court's previous order -which is what you did. Did you ask that visits between mother and child be supervised by a responsible person? Did you seek some sort of emergency relief from the court? That's going to be a hard sell if you did not do any of this. I don't know why you refer to her as "mother" quote unquote. Either she is or she isn't.
