Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

A friend of my girlfriend and I wants us to take in and care for her 4 year old daughter. She is willing to give us $50 to $100 a week to do so. We have our doubts that the child is getting very good care at home and we are willing to do this for her sake. We also have doubts about the mother's citizenship. What are the legal barriers to doing this?

I don't know whether there's anything illegal about this but there's considerable downside if mom is sideways with DHS or ICE. In addition you would need to have the ability to make medical decisions and schooling decisions, particularly with respect to attendance citizenship and immunizations.

I would suggest you get qualified as foster parents so you can legally take custody of the child and that's done through DHS. If mom doesn't want to go the legit path I'd not do it.
