Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I live in Kansas but 2 years ago my daughters dad ran off with her to iowa. I went through pregnancy and the first 2 years of her life without him. He paid child support and visitation every other weekend. When she was 2 we moved in together. I had a work related injury that stayed me on prescription pain medications way before he and I met. While living together I became addicted to these meds. We split up because of this. He was able to get a lawyer first, which in Kansas gives him temp residential custody until a judge decided otherwise. We went through 2 mediations with him not willing to cooperate at all. I tried numerous times to get s court date set but my attorney was through legal aid. In April 2013 I was incarcerated for a short time because of my becoming addicted to drugs. After a week of my being in jail he took my daughter and moved to iowa. He didn't file any kind of move with the courts, we never got to go to court and neither of us have attorneys. He blocks any contact. I email his mom at least once a month but she said they haven't heard from them.

I have finally, after 2 years, tracked him down and he is in Des Moines Iowa. In kansas I have every right to have her with me but iowa, I don't know. Please help

Do you have a court order that awards you custody or do you have some sort of shared custody that has been approved by the court? If not you're stuck litigating at a distance. You'll need to get an Iowa attorney and file for custody here.
