Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

When I got married, we did not sign a prenup. Now I am considering divorce, but my name is on a store I own with a sibling and the house my mother lives in. What can I do to keep my spouse from taking these things from my family?

Was the store and the house acquired after the marriage or before? Did you do or say anything that would entitle your potential ex to a claim on either asset? The general rule is that assets acquired during the marriage are property of the marriage estate. If the property or assets are acquired before the marriage with no intent to merge them then they are the assets of the individual. This refers to debts and obligations as well.
