Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Am I in trouble?

I was unaware that a friend of my friend's children was a convicted sex offender. I left him, and my friend's children, babysitting my 5 year old child. I only did it once, and not for a long period of time, only a few hours. Offender is 19. I have information about him that implicates him in having sexual relations with my friend's daughter, a 15 yr old girl. Should I report this? It was consensual. What kind of trouble could I get into for letting him babysit my young son? I don't know the details of his conviction, but (I know this may not be answerable) is there some kind of ''rule'' that states that he may not spend time with minor children? Or would that depend on the details of his conviction? (my friend's children are 14 male, and 15 female)

Thank you for your time.

It is possible to be charged with child endangerment if you allowed a convicted sex offender to be alone with your child. The decision to prosecute is up to the county attorney's office.

As regards the other question, it sounds as if this person is a repeat offender but you are under no obligation to disclose such information to anyone. Let your conscience be your guide.
