Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa

My apartment is charging me for 2 additional months rent even though my lease expired on the day I was moving out according to my signed lease because I did not give 60 days notice . It does appear I initialed next to something that stated to give 60 day notice but I was like a special situation meaning the following. This apartment complex only signs 1 year leases they made a special exception as I was here on work only 8 months also they charged me an additional 50 a month since I would only be there 8 months knowing I was leaving end of December how can they do this? Is there anything I can do?

You can not pay them and make them sue you. Of course that'll appear on your credit report. I would suggest having an attorney review the lease and see if there's a way to avoid paying the extra two months rent.
