Legal Question in Mediation in Iowa

personal property
i lived with a friend with no rental agreement. i moved out and now he refuses to let me obtain my remaining personal effects until i pay another month rent. he is also threatening to sell my property march 1st. what can i do?

If you don't owe him any money I think maybe I'd ask to have a deputy go along with me while I lawfully retrieved my property.
