Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

My wife and I have owned our home for 11 years. We recently discovered that the square footage of our house is greater than what the county thinks it is. The county has the dimensions of our house listed as 32' x 32' or 1024 sq. ft. The actual dimensions are 32' x 40' or 1280 sq. ft. We live in Iowa.

My question is, can the county charge us an extra fee for the entire 11 years that we have owned our home? What should we do?
