Legal Question in Social Security Law in Iowa

I am underage. My father passed away when i was in 3rd grade. 1 year ago my mother moved out and i havent lived with her and barely talked to her since. She doesnt pay for anything for me and i know she gets money from as an inheritance because of my father's passing that is supposed to go to me. I'm obviously not seeing any of the money, nor is it being used for anything i need to do. This has got to change, so is there anything i can do to put that money is some better hands? (i'm not sure what "area of law" this is. so if i did it wrong, i'm sorry).

What a terrible situation. You should be able to review the court file at the district court clerk's office in your county and determine who the attorney for the estate was. Some information might also be available at iowacourts.gov. Near the bottom of the page you will see a link for online court records, then click online docket record search, then click the trial court case search, and from there you should be able to enter your father's name. You might try contacting that attorney to see who is paying the money and to whom. That attorney might be able to assist you in getting the money into the hands of someone who will be looking out for your best interests, and perhaps getting back some of the money that has already been paid. If this attorney does not help you or you do not get a straight answer, you might need to have another attorney assist you. Let me know if you have questions. Good luck.
