Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Iowa

As an executor of a living trust, in the state of Iowa, do I need to protect myself if my deceased sister might have outstanding debts that exceed her assets? Does this require putting a legal notice in the local newspaper saying I am not responsible for debts not my own?

I do not know that those notices are worth the paper they're printed on. You can't wipe out any legal debt with a notice in the paper. As far as the potential effect if your sister's debts exceed her assets, I suggest you contact the attorney who is handling the will. If you don't have one, get one who is familiar with the subject matter.
