Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

I am curious to know if I can have guardianship for my second cousin who is a minor. She has moved three times this year. Her mother has 6 kids all but two have different fathers. She works part time and has her hands full with the the two children who have mental disabilities. Leaving my second cousin to basically help take care of the kids. The father has no interest in taking responsibility. In the past year my second cousin had bed bugs and had lice at least 5 times. I am also curious of how it much it might cost? The mother is now in Kansas but moving to Missouri. Please let me know what I can do to have a more stable environment for my 8 year old cousin. I live in Colorado with my husband who is in the army.

Since to reside in Colorado, it would be difficult for you to be appointed Guardian or Custodian in Missouri or Kansas probate court, without the state removing kids from the house. But, if your Aunt allows the girl that go look very with you, you might get sufficient custody. If she moves within 40 miles of Kansas City, i normally just charge $125/hr for probate work. You need to consult with a Colorado attorney regarding the requirements to get her enrolled in your school district.

Good luck
