Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

my husband had me served with divorce papers but said I could remain in the home as long as there was no fighting. We have been married for 22 years and I have endured a lot of mistreatment but stayed due to fear of him and in order to be present to protect my children (kids who are now 12 and 14) and the fear of losing what I do own. I have been a stay at home mom for all these years, never really wanting to work outside the home and him saying he agreed. I also have taken care of bookwork, planning and physical labor for 3 businesses in which he failed due to not following through. Now he has filed and is holding everything we own in his name, which is substantial and I am allowed to stay here until I anger him by not submitting to his whims. I have no job, no income. How long can he use these filed papers to force my submission to his will.

Your attorney may be able to get a temporary support Order, so that you can get your own place. Talk to them about your situation. If you haven't hired an attorney, start meeting with some. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. They may file a request for the Court to order your husband to pay their fees. Even though property may be titled un your husband's name, much or all of it may be marital property, and could be divided between you two.

Good luck
