Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

I owe back child support because I didn't know my ex had filed an order 3 1/2 years ago stating i had to pay through the state (we had a unique situation) I have been paying him more than the ordered amount by check and helping with expenses the entire time but i found out today that none of that counts in the state as child support. If i start paying now will it trigger collection of the back support and will they let me work something out on paying it?

It is community for the State to work payment plans for parents that are not hiding or running from their duty to support. If you were not served with proper Notice of the claim for support through the State, you may not have an arrearage to pay off. To find out, you'll need to consult directly with a family law attorney. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Find one in your area, and get an accurate picture of your options.

Good luck
