Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Would I have any rights to my biological fathers inheritance? Just found out my father of 30 years is not my biological father. My mother had an affair with another man. This other man, who she almost married after my parents divorced, was actually my true father. He is very wealthy and unfortunately he is not in the best health right now. I plan on contacting him soon just to clear the air of this matter because he may not live much longer. I feel he should include me in his will to get part of the estate if/when he passes. Is this something I need a lawyer to fight on my behalf or am I entitled to inheritance? The paternity hearing was conducted in the early 90s at which time a DNA test confirmed he is my father though my father on the birth certificate essentially adopted me. My real father tried to hide this secret as long as he could but he cant run from it now.

If you were adopted, you probably cannot inherit from the biological father because legally he isn't your father. But, if you weren't adopted, and there is a paternity order, you might be able to inherit without being in the Will. Whether you need an attorney to get in touch with your biological father is determined upon mire facts than you could provide here. But, it may not hurt to consult directly with a probate or civil practice attorney in your area, to find out your options.

Good luck
