Legal Question in Workers Comp in Kansas

I got hurt on the job in August 2011. I've had a couple of surgeries on my hand. The most recent was February 2012. My employer (insurance co.) has paid for all my treatment. The surgeon gave me a 2% rating. (after 3 surgeries - Ha!).

I have a question about the statute of limitations.

KSA 44-534 says "No proceeding for compensation shall be maintained

under the workers compensation act unless an application for a

hearing is on file in the office of the director within three years

of the date of the accident or within two years of the date of the

last payment of compensation, whichever is later."

Does that mean the statute of limitations is the later or Feb 2014 (2 years after treatment) and August 2014 (3 years after injury)? And all I need to do is file the Application for Hearing? What is the Application for Preliminary Hearing for?

I just want to make sure I don't miss it.

Thanks.
