When the will says if a child is deceased then it is ''per stripes''--what does that mean?

Re: meaning of phrase in a will

"Per Stirpes" means that if a child predeceases his parent, then the child's share of the parent's estate passes to any of the child's children (who would be the grandchildren of the writer of the will). If the predeceased child leaves no children, then his share would be divided "per capita" equally among his surviving siblings.
