What can i do

If someone wrote me a personal check and it bounced can i take it to the d.a. or do i have to go to small claimes court it was for $400.00

First, it's possible the person didn't intend to stiff you, but rather simply didn't have sufficient funds in their account when you presented the check for payment. You can re-present the check again and see what happens. If that doesn't work (I would try 2 more times) then you can certainly refer the matter to the D.A. That, however, will not get you paid. You have to file a civil lawsuit (in the equivalent of small claims court). If you go to the clerks office they can give you the forms you need and help you figure out what to do. There is, of course, no guarantee that you will get the money that way either, but it may be worth a try. Hope this helps.
