Legal Question in Technology Law in Louisiana

Computers and Personal Jurisdiction

I need all state and federal case citations dealing with computer use and personal jurisdiction. I represent a Washington State employee background check company that dials up a Louisina "reseller" of such information through a direct dial up server (computer) located in Louisiana. My client has been sued in Louisiana in a petition on open accounts. I've contested personal jurisdiction arguing lack of minimum contacts. I've lost in the state appeal court which has said that dialing up the computer in Louisiana is enough contact directed at a Louisiana resident. I'm appealing to the state supreme court and need to cite all case law on point, both state federal. Can anyone help?

Re: Computers and Personal Jurisdiction

There are quite a few decisions in this area, the gist of which is usually that jurisdiction is conveyed only where some sort of two way commerce is taking place. For example, setting up a web site to advertise one's services does not in itself convey jurisdiction, but taking some one's credit card number and selling them product might. Normal concepts of jurisdiction apply.

I speak frequently on Internet related subjects, including jurisdiction. I can pull these cases together for you rather quickly if you like, but it will take a little time (say a couple of hours). Why don't you drop me an email if you are interested.
