Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My daughter lives in Jefferson Parish in Louisiana. She has a 9 year old son. The father's name is on the birth certificate, he is currently in the child's life, they were never married (but no longer together), there has never been a court order for child support, visitation or even custody. The child has always resided with his mother. Can the father simply take the child from the great grandmother while the mother is out of town for work & refuse to bring him home?
