Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

need a little help?

Me and my g.f split and we went to court........ I'm thinking of signing over my rights to her her and shes agreeing that if i do i wont haft to pay child support can i get a lawyer to draw some papers up on that and it be legal that i wouldnt haft to pay child support? Wouldnt it be like a contract between us that would hold up because she is signing a contract basically?

Re: need a little help?

In my experience, unless there is another man who wants to adopt, very few Judges would allow such a thing. Child support is the right of the child, not the mother. However, if you wish to do it, although it will not stop her from seeking support in the future, or you from seeking visitation in the future, it will at least end her attempts to get support now, and she cannot seek past support until a court has ordered support paid. If the court has already ordered you to pay support, then only the court can change that.
