Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

restraining order law across states

I(24)live in New York, and my girl friend (19)lives in Louisiana. I was served with a petition for injunctive relief(by her dad)(who she still resides with) while I was on probation. My P.O. would not let me go to the court to defend myself so the permanent injunction was granted. Now I am off probation and am wondering what will happen if i try to contact my girlfriend. She has called me and instant messaged me since the order, and i dont know what to do? If i violate the order can louisinana arrest me or send someone else to if i am in New York? Her dad is the one who got the order, but my girl friend doesn't want it. The order states that i am denied communication with him or his family. The reason for the order was because i was on probation and her dad din't like me. It had nothing to do with physical harm or threat. PLease Help!!

Same question, same answer. I would not contact his home if I was you. Just my opinion.

It depends what the injunction says. Lousiana authorities cannot come to New York to arrest you, but they can ask for extradition if you violate the restraining order and there is cause for your arrest. This means they can ask New York authorities to arrest you and then transport you back to Lousiana for trial.

As far as personally contacting the girl. If you go to Louisiana and a meet with her while there is an injunction against you you can be arrested for violating a judicial order.

IF you truly beleive the injunction is wrong, the proper thing to do would be to go back to Lousiana without contacting the girl and start proceedings to quash the injunction against you.
