Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

child molestation civil statute of limitations

As a child in Louisiana, my father molested me from the age of about 3 to 13. He also let my 'Godfather' have me. I know it's too late (I'm now 45) for filing criminal charges, but what about civil?

It's not that I've willingly neglected to pursue this matter, but my entire life has been ruined by this trauma I went through as a child, and I am just now able to come to terms with it to bring it to this point.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: child molestation civil statute of limitations

I am very sorry to hear about what happened to you. But unfortunately, your right to file for civil damages was lost probably when you turned 19. However, Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 571.1 allows the bringing of criminal charges in your case for 30 years after you turned 18. So, if you are up to it, you can bring charges against both of the scumbags. Good luck.
