Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

In Maine, if I fire a real-estate agent, can the agent still collect commission from that sale? If so, up to how long. I was told by the agent that I could fire at any time but then was informed by someone that the agent would still get commission up to a year. Is that true?

Also, we have a very interested buyer, but they need to sell their land first. We suggested the same realtor we use. We found out that the realtor has been listing that information incorrectly and that owner has had to get certain documents that the realtor should have retrieved. One would think that the agent would get on this since it is a "two-for" but neither of us are happy with the agent's efforts and/or candor with potential buyers.

Trying to move forward but the agent is putting us at a standstill.

It depends on the listing agreement you executed. That is a contract and the specific language of that contract will control as to whether or not the commission from a sale obtained through your efforts is still due to the real estate broker.
