Legal Question in Administrative Law in Maryland

Charging fees for medical records.

My Doctor moved her practice out of state. She gave another local doctor all of her patient's medical records. I found a different doctor other than the one my records had been sent to. The doctor who has by records wants me to pay a $25.00 fee for my records. Is this type of a charge legal?

Re: Charging fees for medical records.

I don't know the answer, but it may not be. This type of small but pernicious consumer abuse is best handled by the Office of the Attorney General. See their consumer affairs section's site at http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/index.htm
