Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Can my small business legally name a weekend workshop/seminar series by "(Company Name) University"? We are not claiming to offer degrees or credits and are not educationally affiliated.

Any name under which a business operates should be registered as a trade name. Whether or not the "University" name would mislead individuals into thinking a company was an accredited institution of higher education depends on the circumstances.

As with many specific types of business questions, you may wish to seek legal counsel. While I hope the general information helps, it is not a substitute for legal advice.
