Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

i live in maryland, i purchased new carpet form homedepot and installation in dec 2010. i was over charged due to an error so i paid it anyway and they said they would credit me the amount which was $22.00. so this week went into the store to check on the credit and guy said i will take care of it and refund it to your debit card. when i got home looked at the reciept he credit me back $1,200.00. and not to my debit card he charged it back to my credit card. the office called telling me the error but i couldnt talk to them at the momment and they said they will call back been 2 days since, what options do i have, if it was 40 dollars they ould have not called but since it 1,200, which was the cost of my carpet. do i keep it or do i have to call my credit card to have them to return it?

Call and return the money. At some point, Home Depot's accounting will figure out the mistake and they will come back after you for the money. They could call the police and say that you "converted" the money to your own use -- a fancy way of saying you stole it. Don't go down that path for 1000 dollars.

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.********
