You need a lawyer right away. If nothing else, go to my web cite www.weatherspoonfirm.com and look at the section about the right to remain silent. Then print out the card I created and when they advise you of your Miranda rights, give them that in return. DO NOT make any statements to the police. No matter what they say, it will not be helpful to you to "just tell them your side". The police aer not trying to help you. GET A LAWYER. Call me if you want to discuss this further.

As a general rule, you do not want to turn yourself in to the police. You will normally, depending on the case, be put in jail until your trial, which could be months. Better, hire a criminal lawyer who might be able to make arrangements so that your case can come to trial without you waiting in jail. In any event, make arrangements for bail prior to going to jail.
