Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Child Abuse

A male friend of mine was watching my 3 children while I was at work. They are 7 6 and 2. My two oldest children (both boys), claimed to their father that my friend had slapped them acrossed the face, hit them with the belt and grabbed them by the wrist. I seen no marks on my children when they went with their father. Their father claims pictures were taken by Department of Social Services, but I have yet to see them. The case is right now in DSS hands for investigation. How will a case like this be handled if the children say he did that, but I seen no marks on them and he claims he did not do it. What is the likely hood that he would be charged? And if charged what would be his capital punishment? He has no criminal record, he is a Military Police Officer.

Child Abuse

The imposition of penalties for child abuse have become more severe over the last couple of years because of all the high publicity cases. Your friend should seek legal counsel now, before charges are brought, to help prevent the filing of charges, and to convince DSS that no abuse took place.
