Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Suspended License

I was charged with driving on a suspended license and registration about a year ago. The suspended license stems from a speeding ticket I got a year prior in Indiana and forgot to pay, and my suspended registration stems from forgetting to get my emissions done. I have since payed the ticket and taken care of the suspensions. I have no prior run-ins with the law other than a few speeding tickets. What should I say to the judge?

Re: Suspended License

When you go to court, speak with the State's Attorney regarding his or her position on the case. Since you have cleared the suspensions, the state may be willing to recommend a probation before judgment depending on your prior driving record. You should inform the judge that the suspensions have been cleared, In addition, if you were unaware that you were suspended, you would need to prove that you were not notified. Get a copy of your driving record and make sure that there is evidence in the record that shows the notices being mailed to your current address.
