Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

I need to file a civil law suit against my ex husband who lives in KY and I live in MD. The lawsuit is based around a property we owned and sold in NJ. Do I need to file the law suit where he resides or can I file it in the county that I reside in?

You can sue in KY where he resides. Without more facts showing a connection between your ex, the claim, and the state of MD, it does not appear that you could sue him in MD. You may be able to sue in NJ where the property at issue was.
