Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

I co-signed for my brother two years ago for a six month lease. He honored that lease then the landlord let him sign another lease on his own that I did not sign (or even know about). He subsequently defalted on second lease. The landlord is saying that I am responsible because I originally co-signed for him and did not notify him in writing that I was not going to be on the second lease (even though I did not sign the second lease) Is this legal for him to do or is he trying to get his money anyway he can.

Thanks you.

Dave

If it's a new lease rather than a renewal or extension of the existing lease, you should not be liable; if it's a renewal or extension, then it depends on the terms of the guaranty that you signed.
