The first thing is to request a meeting with school officials, possibly at the level above the principal. If you've already done that, you could file an administrative complaint. With respect to legal liability, remember that the school is not automatically responsible when such events happen, but if they fail to take adequate safeguards against potential attacks, or if they are aware of the dangerous propensities of a particular student and don't act to prevent future occurrences, they can be held responsible. Contact an attorney who handles school cases for more detailed information about your situation. You can find one either via an internet search or by contacting your county bar association.
