Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

Settlement for Minor in an Automobile Accident

My sons and I were in an auto accident 2 years ago. We all sustained injuries. My youngest son received a settlement of $8000 (after lawyer fees). I am told I will receive the check for the settlement in a couple of weeks and the money needs to go into a federal account. My lawyer didn't state what should be done after I put the money in the account when I asked him. What type of proof will I need to provide, if any, to the court as to where the money was deposited? Can my son have access to the money before he is 18? I thought the court would put the money in an account until he is 18 instead of sending us the money to be deposited.

Re: Settlement for Minor in an Automobile Accident

The requirements vary depending on whether the settlement was court-approved or not, and what terms may have been imposed, if any. You need to discuss this with your lawyer - this is something s/he should advise you on.
