Is dumpster diving in say a department stores dumpster legal in Maryland?

The answer is "it depends." In general, when a person or business throws something in the garbage, it is fair game for the general public to "dig" for it. On the other hand, it depends where the dumpster is located -- if you have to break-and-enter or trespass to get to the dumpster, you may be criminally liable if caught. Some counties have specific anti-dumpster diving laws as well. I would be careful engaging in this type of activity.
