distributing private information

If someone went on to another person's computer and forwarded messages to their own computer is there any way to prevent them from publishing or distributing that information to others without the original owner's permission?

Re: distributing private information

Alot would depend on the nature of the information, but assuming it is confidential private or otherwise protected, a Cease & Desist Letter from an attorney, followed by a court action for injunctive relief would be most effective. (Assuming requests and threats by the owner of the information is to no avail.)

I have experience with similar cases.
