Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Hi I have been contacted by Portfolio Recovery Associates regaurding an old credit card debt. I have been offered several options for payment. My concern is that they may not be the most reputable company to deal with. The options are satisfactory, and I dont dispute the debt. Should I begin making payments?

You could do that, but if it's more than six years since you made a payment, the debt is legally unenforceable, so you have a defense to collection. Trying to collect an unenforceable debt is illegal. I suggest you see a lawyer about filing an FDCPA claim against them. (A lawyer will know what FDCPA means.).

Yes, you should consult a consumer protection attorney BEFORE you pay them. I am a consumer protection attorney, we offer free consultations for this.
